This service operates as a crypto-native privacy tool. No banks by default. No institutional custody layer. Trust is minimized to open-source software integrity, local device security, and the Tor network.
OnionShare is an open-source tool for securely and anonymously sharing files, hosting simple websites, and chatting over the Tor network. It allows users to create temporary or persistent onion services directly from their own device, reducing reliance on centralized hosting or file-transfer platforms.

Operating model
OnionShare runs locally on the userβs own device and uses Tor onion services to expose files, websites, or chat rooms directly to recipients. It is not a custodial service and does not require a hosted account for core functionality. Users control when sessions start and stop, and can use temporary or persistent onion addresses depending on their setup.
Source code: Open-source
OnionShareβs codebase is publicly available, allowing independent inspection of its implementation and security model. This improves auditability and reduces dependence on opaque proprietary infrastructure.

Security notes
OnionShare improves privacy by routing access through Tor and avoiding centralized transfer services, but it does not eliminate all risk. Users still depend on endpoint security, safe operating practices, and the anonymity properties of the Tor network. Persistent onions, saved tabs, and disabled private-key protections may increase exposure if used carelessly.
